Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Whenua Hoko Holdings Ltd

Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Whenua Hoko Holdings Ltd (‘Whenua Hoko’) is the property arm of Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Development Trust (‘NMWoK’).  The business is led by Daniel Clay (Tumuaki (Chief Executive), who is part of Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara) and its office is located at Westgate. 

Whenua Hoko manages the commercial real estate interests and opportunities of NMWoK.  These include land held by NMWoK, and opportunities resulting from regulatory and other rights and interests.  North-West Auckland is one of the focus areas for Whenua Hoko, as it is within the rōhe of Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara and is the next urban growth area for Auckland.  The rōhe and wider area of interest for Whenua Hoko extends from North-West Auckland to South Head and Wellsford in the north.  Whenua Hoko is a subsidiary of Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Commercial Development Ltd, which is the commercial arm of Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara. 

Whenua Hoko’s business includes both land acquisition and development and commercial property investments.  It works closely with partners and stakeholders to grow its business and property portfolio.  This portfolio includes land at Hobsonville Point, where Whenua Hoko’s subsidiary Te Uru Ltd, owns and is developing land for housing.

Daniel joined NMWoK Whenua Hoko Holdings Ltd as Tumuaki (Chief Executive) in 2016 soon after the company was formed.  Prior to that, Daniel was a Director of Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Investments Ltd.  Daniel was first based in the Restall Rd office, and Whenua Hoko has since established offices in Westgate from where Daniel now leads the Whenua Hoko team.

Daniel’s previous career was in legal practice which extended to 20 years, and was a partner at two national law firms based in Auckland’s CBD for 13 of those years.  His area of legal expertise is in regulatory and environmental law (land use planning and consenting) and in dispute resolution (litigation).  These skills and networks are highly relevant to Whenua Hoko’s business.  Daniel has a keen focus on corporate strategy and the need for commercial sustainability.  He takes the commercial responsibilities Whenua Hoko has seriously in order to grow the asset base and to provide a sustainable returns to the Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Development Trust.

Daniel lives in Ōrākei and connects to Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara through Haranui Marae.  He has four tamariki and is married to Amy.

Dane joined the Whenua Hoko Holdings team in August 2017, primarily to manage Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara’s development of Te Uru (Hobsonville Point), and to assist in the acquisition of additional land assets.

Dane has a strong leadership background holding commercial management roles with some of Aotearoa’s largest horticultural and agricultural organisations including T&G Global. He has also spent time in the UK working in management and playing competitive rugby. Dane brings a strong focus on building and growing the Whenua Hoko business and understands the significant role this has for current and future generations of our whānau.

Dane lives in Ōrakei and connects to Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara through Haranui Marae. He has two tamariki and is married to Jacqui.  Dane enjoys spending time with whānau and friends, and is still having his arm twisted to play the odd game of rugby.
